Message from the President

From all of us at Soccer Rhode Island, our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Texas and Louisiana who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey. In the wake of natural disasters, many of those affected the hardest are children; some of the most vulnerable, whose needs extend beyond money, food and shelter. As our children in the state of Rhode Island are preparing for back to school, soccer games and pumpkins, the children of East Texas and Louisiana are preparing for months and years of rebuilding.

Youth soccer is a community. Soccer Rhode Island is committed to aid in the rebuilding efforts of our fellow soccer communities throughout impacted areas of East Texas and Louisiana. In recognition of September as National Youth Soccer month, a percentage of all monetary gift donations made to Soccer Rhode Island during the month of September will be donated back to the US Youth Soccer Hurricane Relief Fund which is focused on helping normal daily life return for our fellow soccer members. To make a donation visit our website at  www.soccer-ri.com  or contact us at  401-732-7800 .

Sincerely,
Stephen Votolato
President

USYS Olympic Development Program Region I Players Selected

CONGRATULATIONS to Emma Prestage (Girls 2004), Marlon Monterroso (Boys 2003) & Lena Lukowicz (Girls 2003) for being selected to the US Youth Soccer Region I Olympic Development Program.

The primary mission of ODP is to identify elite level players and help facilitate them to a U.S. National Team program. Competing through state & regional trials, these players will now be able to train and play against the best players in their age group throughout the Northeast region.

The US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program was formed in 1977 to identify a pool of players in each age group from which a National Team may be selected for domestic or international competition; to provide high-level training to benefit and enhance the development of players at all levels by scheduling domestic and international events at the Regional level; and, through the use of carefully selected and licensed coaches, develop a mechanism for the exchange of ideas and curriculum to improve all levels of coaching.
